Best Club Down Under
The game of hurling is entwined in the roots of Irish people everywhere. These roots don’t just grow deep, they also grow wide - in all sorts of climates, soils and conditions. In fact, they even grow as far as Australia! Thanks to the tireless work of Irish ex-pats and descendents, the game Down Under is flourishing at an astonishing rate.
To celebrate this, and to acknowledge the place that hurling has in Irish people’s lives, wherever in the world they may be, Etihad are going to take Ireland’s Best Club Down Under – and we want you to help us choose them. -
Get your club there
So, just how can your club become The Best Club Down Under? It’s simple. All you have to do is go to the ‘Enter’ section of this website. Once you’ve filled in the relevant details on the online entry form, we want you to tell us what the greatest achievement is in your hurling club’s history.
Now, by ‘greatest achievement’, we don’t necessarily mean silverware or titles – great as they are. Has your club prospered, or even just survived against the odds? Have you overcome the player drains of competing sports or dwindling player numbers? Is your club the greatest symbol of your parish or community’s identity or fortunes? Achievement comes in many forms. Tell us yours. -
The winning club
Once the entries are in, our panel of judges will choose four clubs that we feel most deserve to be considered The Best Club Down Under – and then it’s down to a public vote! We’ll host the four finalists here online, and you’ll be able to vote for the club that you think deserves it the most – so keep checking back here to see if YOUR club, or one that you know, is one of the final four.
Once the people have voted, the winning club’s first team, selected coaches and mentors will all fly to Australia with Etihad this October, where they’ll receive exclusive coaching from the legendary Nicky English, before playing the challenge game of their lives.
Before the First Test in the 2011 Ireland-Australia International Rules Series, they’ll take to the field at Melbourne’s 53,000-capacity Etihad Stadium to play against an Australian-based All Star hurling team. This could be your club, so enter today!
