Why we’re the Best Club Down Under
Bishopstown GAA Club has been part of the community since 1957 and continues to foster Gaelic games for all ages. Our GAA Club has over 800 members and encompasses approximately 33 playing teams ranging from under 5’s to senior hurling and senior football – one of only five clubs in the county that hold dual senior status. In addition to the male teams, camogie and ladies football is played at the club.
Our facilities are also utilised by other clubs, organisations and societies which include Badminton, Dancing, 45, Bridge, UCC, CIT, Chartered Accountancy and Weight Watchers to name a few. We also have 5 primary schools and three secondary schools in our catchment that use our club.
Over the past decade our club has been very active with regard to infrastructural development. In the last ten years we have made the following major improvements to our facilities:
• Constructed new Sports Hall
• Constructed new Ball Alley
• Re-design and Refurbishment of Members Bar
• Surfacing of the Car Park
• Refurbishment of the Dressing Rooms
5 YEAR PLAN:
As a GAA club, we are competing with other clubs and other codes. We need to provide the best facilities to our players. By the providing the best we will give our players the greatest opportunity for success. In addition, the club with the best facilities will have the best opportunity to attract new players and retain them. We have therefore put in place a 5 year plan to improve our grounds.
YEAR 1 - Construction of Ball Alley - Complete
YEAR 1/2 - Development of all weather grass - Commenced surface pitch (Pitch 2)
YEAR 2/3 - Development of all weather floodlit - Commence 2013 grass surface pitch (Pitch 1)
YEAR 4/5 - Development of all weather floodlit - Commence 2015 synthetic surface pitch (Pitch 1)
Bishopstown GAA Club will be investing approximately €1 million over the next five years.
Our current senior hurling team boasts two Cork intercounty senior hurlers – Pa Cronin and Shane O’Neill – the Cork Captain.
